Community Planning for Children and Families
Resources
The Story County Family website originated in January 2000 as a Birth to Five Collaborative project. About Us!The original focus of the website was to provide parents and agencies serving families with quick and easy access to information about programs and services available throughout Story County.  The Birth to Five Collaborative included the efforts of Ames Community Preschool Center, Center for Child Care Resources, Iowa State University Extension-Story County, Nevada Community Resource Center, People Place of Lutheran Social Service of Iowa, and Story County Nutrition Coalition.

In May 2001, the Story County Family website expanded its resource directory to include school-age youth programs as a part of a School-Age Task Force project to provide resources for families with children, ages 5-18, and children with special needs under the age of 21. Member agencies of the School-Age Task Force included ACCESS (Assault Care Center Extending Shelter and Support), Ames Community School District, Ames Community Preschool School, Ames Parks and Recreation, Ballard Community School District, Boys and Girls Club of Iowa, Camp Fire Boys and Girls, Camp Hantesa, Center for Child Care Resources, Children's Services of Central Iowa, Collins-Maxwell School District, Formative Years, Gilbert Community School District, Homeless Liaison/Mentoring Coordinator Ames, Iowa State University American Reads/Counts, Iowa State University Extension/Story County, Juvenile Court Services, Mayor's Youth Committee, Nevada Community Resource Center, Nevada Community School District, Roland-Story School District, RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), Story County DECAT/Empowerment, Story County Department of Human Services, United Way of Story County, University Community Child Care, and Youth and Shelter Services, Inc.
